Garmisch ski trip

The first weekend in February we decided to make a last trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and stay at the Edelweiss Lodge.  This has become something we all look forward to in the Winter here and it was an especially snowy good time this year.  We started out with dinner at a German restaurant the evening we arrived.  Charlotte was beginning to have a sore throat, so she stuck to soup.

In the morning it was apparent that she would not be going skiing as she had a very sore throat and fever.  Amelie and I stayed at the hotel with her and the three of us had hot chocolate and watched cartoons.  We had been planning that this would be the year all 6 of us got on skis together, but there's always next year!

Rob took the boys to the slopes and put them in their lesson group for the day. He sent me these photos and I loved seeing them have fun in the snow.

Skiing is very serious business for Bears.

Then Rob took to the slopes and sent me a few photos from his day.  It was snowing on the mountain most of the day while the valley was getting a mix of snow and rain.

Oh we do love the mountains!

Back at the Lodge at the day's end, we visited the pool and hot tub all together and then the kiddos curled up to watch cartoons together.

The next morning we took it easy, and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast.  It was snowing steadily all day and Charlotte seemed to be feeling a bit better and no longer had a fever, so we took everyone sledding on the fresh eight inches of powder that fell overnight.

And the snow just kept on coming!  A German walking past us commented, "Schöne Heute!" To which we replied, "Genau!" (Beautiful today! Absolutely!)

Snow angels are super fun when the snow is deep and fluffy.

Who needs a sled when you can make a snow slide?

Even the horses in a nearby field were running and frolicking in the snow.  A snowy weekend just puts everyone in a good mood.

The kiddos built a snowman right next to the edge of a ski slope to cheer the skiers passing by.

After playing in the snow, we again visited the pool and hot tub for a good long time.  Afterwards Amelie put herself to bed.  She was so tired at 5 pm! We let her sleep and Rob stayed with her while I took the three big kids out for dinner.  (We brought back takeout for Rob and Amelie.)

The next day we drove home and enjoyed seeing all of the gorgeous newly fallen snow. At least for the first hour of the drive!  As we got closer to home the snow all melted away.

Thanks for the memories Garmisch!
